City Museum Gor Khatri is a compact but significant museum located in the southeastern section of the historic Gor Khatri complex in Peshawar.

It was established in 2006 by the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The museum primarily displays artifacts excavated from the Gor Khatri mound, one of the oldest inhabited sites in the city.

Many pottery pieces are at display at the museum

The interior consists of two modest halls with brick floors and ventilated walls that allow light and airflow.

Glass display cases line the walls, housing terracotta pottery, ancient bricks, coins from various eras, and figurines of humans and animals.

Notable finds include terracotta vases and objects dating back to the Achaemenid, Mauryan, Indo-Greek, Scytho-Parthian, and Hindu Shahi periods.

The collection reflects the multi-layered cultural history of Peshawar and provides insights into its ancient urban life.

Though small in scale, the museum offers a focused, contextual experience through its locally excavated material.

City Museum Gor Khatri serves as a valuable institution preserving and presenting the archaeological heritage of one of South Asia’s oldest cities.
